Kpop Corner – Blackpink “Kill This Love”

By Rhonny · On April 12, 2019

Blackpink is back with a bang (well…more like an explosion) in their new video for the single “Kill This Love”. It’s their first new material since last year’s “Square Up”, so fans were extra excited to see what direction Blackpink would take with this comeback. The song opens up with strong trumpet/marching band sounds that make you feel like you’re ready for battle. The lyrics are about ending a toxic relationship that you feel addicted to, but knowing you have to break it off before it ends you. I’m actually surprised at how much of the song was in English! The whole second verse between Jennie and Lisa, the main hook, and the entire end verse are all in English. Of course there’s plenty of the Korean language in the song, but I feel like new fans to kpop and/or non kpop fans can still get into the feel of the song without Google translate or subtitles (although I love subtitles). The outfits in the start of the video are so Tomb Raider badass with Jennie looking straight like Lara Croft and at the end, they become very military and gave me flashbacks to 2NE1 outfits. The full choreography they perform live is way more intense than what’s shown in the music video, so hats off to all that hard work. My favorite part of the song has to be Rose’s vocals. You can hear the emotion in her voice so well in this song. Also, congratulations to Blackpink for surpassing Ariana Grande for having the most YouTube Views in 24 hours! The Blinks adore you!
