Interview- FOXHAUNT [Alternative]

By robulitski @robulitski · On June 10, 2020

In the latest edition of our interview series, we speak to UK-based alternative group FOXHAUNT about lockdown, aspirations and new music.

PW – Hey guys, how’s it going?

Yeah not too bad thanks, how are you?

PW – So first thing’s first, for those who haven’t heard your music, how would you describe your style and vibe?

We would define our sound as Alternative Rock, we incorporate heavy guitars and catch vocal hooks into our songwriting as well as some riffy breakdowns here and there.

PW – You just released ‘Open Water’, the follow up to ‘Trust No One’. What was the inspiration behind the track, and what was the process behind the production like?

‘Open Water’ is a reference to realising you’ve made a mistake and what you do as an individual to make up for that. Specifically in relationships, the need for getting a person you love back in your life back can act as a ‘whistle stuck in your head’ as mentioned in the chorus.

PW –  Lockdown has obviously been very challenging for artists, given the lack of performance opportunities and ways to make money. How have you as a group embraced lockdown, and have you learned any important lessons from it?

We’ve definitely learnt to be patient! As a band we had a lot planned for this year, including tours, music videos and further studio time, but it’s all been put on hold. Fortunately we have a backlog of new music from our visit to the studio earlier in the year, so have more releases to come.

PW – What has been a surprisingly positive experience to come from lockdown?

The togetherness of us as a band and our followers. We’ve had some amazing support, especially with our releases and the ‘Save Our Venues’ t shirt campaign. It’s great to see so many people come together and turn the negativity of a pandemic into a positive.

PW – What’s next for FOXHAUNT?

As mentioned earlier, we have plans to tour, write and record more music etc. Until we can do that, we’ll continue to release what we have in the pipeline!

PW – At Pastel Wasteland, we focus on the creative journey, and also explore the human aspects of our industry. What do your respective journeys look like up until now? Did you always know you wanted to be in a band, for example?

Yeah definitely, personally I’ve always wanted to be in a band. Whilst we have to support ourselves financially through a 9 til 5, we give up the majority of our time to music. The feeling of writing and performing live is something that you can’t replicate in any other walks of life so this is something we do take very seriously.

PW – In this kind of industry, it can be tough to feel like you’re moving forwards sometimes. How do you battle these feelings when they come up, and do you have any advice to other people who might be struggling in a similar way?

We don’t let negativity get to us in all honesty, it just adds fuel to the fire. We always feel as if we’re progressing as a band, we’ve come so far in terms of songwriting and as a group. Our advice would be, if you believe in yourself and your music then never give up!

PW – And final question! It’s more of an invitation actually. Use the next few sentences to tell us what you’re up to next, and where we can follow you online 🙂
