In this edition of #CREATORTALK, we speak to photographer Roberto Aguilar ( @photoaguilar on Instagram). #CREATORTALK is a series of articles and interviews, with a focus on the creative industries and the the talent working within them.
PW- Hey Roberto! How’s it going?
It’s going well!
PW- As a photographer in the industry, you have an enviable list of credits and clients under your belt. Is there one shoot that you could pick out as a key highlight in your career?
There have been so many. The one shoot that changed my life was one many years ago when I assisted in El Salvador. I was asked to assist a photographer for a fashion shoot in W magazine, and this opened my eyes to a bigger world in photography. I decided to sell everything and go to Paris for a year. I have now been in Europe for 18 years.
PW- What are three short and sweet tips you’d give to aspiring fashion photographers?
Test, test, test.
PW- This blog focuses heavily on creativity and the real people behind the art. How does creativity affect you on a day to day basis? Do you get super inspired out and about, or is it more of a focused effort, where you can shut off from the world and just think?
I find beauty in everything. As photographers, it is our duty to find the extraordinary in everything.
PW- This industry can be pretty tough at the best of times. Do you have any tips on how to stay focused on the journey when you’re having an “off day”?
Off days are normal…just remember that the world will not end if this shoot doesn’t go your way.
PW- And final question! It’s more of an invitation actually. Use the next few sentences to self-promote the hell out of what you’re up to, and what we can look out for.
I have recently been working on quite personal projects. I’ve gone back to shooting film, and am developing and printing most of these projects. Also, I am setting up a new lab for alternative processes. All of these prints are handmade, with some processes dating back 170 years. I have also set up an online print shop to raise some of the funds needed for the new photo lab, so if you have some empty walls that need filling please visit apapachoa.shop
PW- Thank you for your time!
